Hello everyone!

We are now starting to accept applications to become a PPA Officer next year! If you are interested in gaining leadership experience and would like to get more involved with Pre-Medical Peer Association, this is a wonderful opportunity to do so.

Even if you have only attended a handful of meetings, we still strongly encourage everyone to apply!

At the moment, the application deadline is set to Saturday, May 6 by 11:59pmYou can access the application here. After your application is accepted, we will send out sign-ups for interviews.

[Spring 2017 Week 3] About Med School Applications and more, with Medical Student Taylor Hobson

Hello everyone!

It was great to see a lot more people show up for our week 2 meeting last Thurday! We are sorry that, for the week 1 meeting, we sent out very last-minute announcements. Since a lot of you were unable to make it to that meeting, we are inviting medical student Taylor Hobson again for our week 3 meeting!

Taylor will again speak about his life as a medical student, and will talk about the medical school application process. We really felt like he had a lot of helpful things to say during our first meeting, so we highly recommend all of you to come, if possible.

The meeting date is this Thursday (4/20/2017). As always, our meeting location and time is the Ackerman Union Room 2408, from 4:00 pm to 4:50 pm.

[Spring 2017 Week 2] Speaker Suzie Fang, from Western University in Pomona

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the last-minute notice, but we are going to have a general meeting this week as well (Thursday, 4/13/2017)! As mentioned before, our meeting location and time have changed to the Ackerman Union Room 2408, from 4:00 pm to 4:50 pm.

This week, we are excited to have Suzie Fang as our guest speaker. Suzie is from the admissions department of the Western University in Pomona, and she will be talking about Western University’s D.O. medical school program, admission requirements, and more.

[Spring 2017 Week 1] Current Medical Student Taylor Hobson

Hello everyone!

We hope you all were able rest well during spring break! Our first meeting for the Spring 2017 quarter will be this Thursday (4/6/2017). However, our meeting location and time have changed! From now on, we are meeting at the Ackerman Union Room 2408, from 4:00 pm to 4:50 pm.

Our speaker for this meeting will be Taylor Hobson, who is currently attending medical school. Since applications for medical school are opening up soon, we thought that many of you might be interested in learning more about the application process. Taylor will talk about his experiences of applying to medical school, and will also talk about medical school life.

For any of you deciding to apply this cycle, this meeting will provide some helpful tips for your application. Even if you are not applying soon, it may be helpful to go, in order to gain some general information about medical school.

[Winter 2017 Week 8] Speaker Melvin Lunkins from Wayne State University

Hello everyone!

We are already approaching the end of this quarter! We hope that, for the most part, everything has been going well for you.

This upcoming week, we are actually not meeting at our usual time and place! We are holding a joint meeting with two other UCLA organizations, Medical Friends and CCM. The meeting will start on Tuesday (2/28/2017) 7:00 pm at Humanities 169. However, for the first 20 minutes CCM will be doing their announcements, so feel free to come at 7:20 pm if you just want to listen to the speaker.

We are excited to have Melvin Lunkins from Wayne State University as our speaker for this week. Melvin Lunkins will give some basic information about the Wayne State University – School of medicine. Afterwards, you will have a chance to ask him questions about that school or about medical school in general.

[Winter 2017 Week 7] USC Global Medicine Information from Farah Zerehi

Hey Everyone!

It has been a while since our last meeting! We hope that your quarter has been going well, and that midterms weren’t too bad. This upcoming Week 7 Thursday (2/23/2017), PPA will resume general meetings. Like before, we are meeting in La Kretz 100 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

If you are interested in the subject of global medicine, and want to pursue it further after graduation, then you definitely want to attend this meeting! Farah Zerehi will be visiting us this week to talk about the USC Global Medicine Program. Even if you have never considered this field before, it might be a good idea to come in order to broaden your scope of future opportunities.

Good luck on any midterms if you still have them, and we hope that you’ll be able to make it to this meeting!

[Winter 2017 Week 4] Ross University information from Tom Hueller

Hello everyone!

This upcoming Thursday (2/2/2017), we will have a general meeting from 6:00pm to 6:50pm at La Kretz 100.

We are excited to have Tom Hueller from Ross University as our speaker for this meeting! He will present about the Ross University School of Medicine and about further opportunities. Additionally, he will answer any general questions about medical school.

Whether you are interested in Ross University or if you just want ask some questions about medical school, this meeting will be very helpful. We hope that you aren’t too busy with midterms, and we hope to see you all there!

[Winter 2017 Week 2] Kaplan MCAT Test Prep Representative Katherine Rose

Hello everyone!

We hope that this quarter is going well so far! Our next meeting will be this upcoming Thursday (1/19/2017), 6:00pm to 6:50pm at La Kretz 100.

This meeting, we are very excited to have Katherine Rose from Kaplan MCAT Test Prep! Katherine will be telling us the details of the current MCAT, such as its format, the topics covered, how to best prepare for it, and more. She will also have special deals and announcement about a new campaign.

If you are planning to take the MCAT in a year or less, this meeting will definitely be helpful. Also, even if you are just a first or second year student, it’s still good to get a idea of what to expect.

In addition, all day Wednesday (1/18/2017), PPA will be having our fundraiser with California Pizza Kitchen. Print out and bring this attached flyer to CPK, and 20% of the proceeds will go to PPA. We would highly appreciate your participation in this event.

Overall, we hope to meet you during the meeting or maybe during the fundraiser!

[Winter 2017 Week 1] Guest Speaker: Dr. Hooman T. Mir

Hello everyone!

We hope all of you had a great winter break! This quarter, PPA will be meeting  Thusdays from 6:00pm to 6:50pm at La Kretz 100. Note that this is a different time and location from last quarter.

This upcoming Thursday (1/12/2017), we will have our first meeting for the quarter. We are excited to once again have Dr. Hooman T. Mir of the Western University of Health Science to speak about the LECA program. For those of you that weren’t able to go to the meeting where he presented last quarter, this is another opportunity to hear about the Learning Enrichment in Clinical Anatomy program, a virtual clinical program on human anatomy.

Dr. Hooman T. Mir will also talk about special deals for the program, and will talk about osteopathic medicine as a path after premed. This meeting can be helpful to a lot of you, and we hope to see everyone there!

Additionally, we will also be having prize giveaways this meeting!
