Happy week 8 !

To relieve some stress this week, we have decided to have a social at Yogurtland!

It will take place this Thursday and we will be meeting at the Bruin bear at 5 pm.
Come out and get to know some other people in PPA and enjoy a little break from studying!

Spring Week 7 General Meeting

Hey Bruins!

Happy week 7!!

This week we will be having another speaker, Dr. Shefizadeh! He is a former president of PPA and he is also a former UCLA medical student and has been part of the admissions committee!
He will be giving a presentation on some tips and tricks about getting into medical school. But don’t hesitate to come with questions for Dr. Shefizadeh!

In addition, Dr. Shefizadeh started TEB Academy, a place where he and other working healthcare executives, physicians, and scientists work with students to help them get into medical, dental, and pharmacy school.

Spring Week 6 Meeting

Hey Bruins!

Thank you to everyone who came out last week to our weekly meeting! Everyone had great questions for Dr. Andrew Charles. If you guys have any other questions for him you can reach him at acharles@ucla.edu.

As for this week, we will be having Dr. Jason Lee from the UCLA anesthesiology department (https://www.uclahealth.org/jason-s-lee). Similiar to last week he will mostly be talking about his specialty and medicine in general. Everyone will have the opportunity to ask questions again!! Spring Week 5 Meeting

Hello Bruins!

Hope everyone had a great week 4!

This week, we will have Dr. Andrew Charles (https://www.uclahealth.org/andrew-charles) from UCLA Neurology & Pain Medicine. He will be talking about his specialty and about medicine in general. In addition, everyone will have the opportunity to ask him any questions that you may have about medicine. Please come out and take advantage of this great opportunity!

Also, PPA will begin to implement an active member policy. In order to receive emails about research/volunteering opportunities, doctors’ emails, etc., you must attend AT LEAST 3 meetings per quarter. We do receive many opportunities for pre-med students and you should all take advantage of that by coming to the weekly meetings! 🙂

Application Essays Feedback – An Online Initiative by UCLA Medical Students
Lastly, this week we have an opportunity to get feedback on your essays for medical school by medical students! For the months of April-September, you can have your personal statement and secondary essays reviewed by a UCLA medical student! It’s first-come, first-served, and multiple submissions are fine. Spring Week 4 Meeting: Extracurricular opportunities

This week’s meeting will be about we will also be giving a presentation of many different volunteering opportunities at UCLA. In addition, we will be talking other extracurricular opportunities presented by PPA officers/interns. There are many things that you can join that are not medically related and can help build your resume. Come out and learn about all the different clubs that we are involved in!

Spring Week 3 Meeting: Learning About the MCAT

Hi Bruins! Thank you for coming to our meeting last week on choosing which medical schools to apply and how to prepare for them. This coming Thursday (4/19/2018), we will have Simon from Kaplan talk about the MCAT for those of you who are planning on taking it. He will go over what is on each of the sections and some strategies on studying and taking it. We understand how daunting it is to study for this 7-hour exam, but ALL of us have the potential to do it!! Please note the room change to Ackerman 2412 this quarter but at the same time 5:00 – 6:00 pm.

PPA Spring 2018 Week 2 Meeting

Hi bruins! Thank you for coming to our first meeting last week on how to prepare for med school in college. This coming Thursday (4/12/2018), we will continue with the process of applying to med school. PPA Spring 2018 Week 1 Meeting!

Welcome back! Hope everyone has had a good spring break spending time with family and friends!

We are excited for this quarter to dive in more on how to prepare for medical school! We will give some general advice to 1st~4th years on the steps this Thursday (4/5/18). PPA Week 9 Meeting

Hope that you guys have finished all your midterms and get a bit of rest before the finishing line! 

We are thankful to see you last Thursday’s with Dr. Avital Harari from UCLA’s Endocrine Surgery team. She has provided her email to you if you still have more questions or get contacted with her: AHarari@mednet.ucla.edu

Again, we are privileged to have Maani Archang who is willing to spend his time with us this Thursday at 5pm in Ackerman 2408. He is a 3rd year MD-PhD student at UCLA, and has also been on the admissions committee at UCLA school of medicine for a year. We highly encourage you guys to come for this great opportunity to learn about premed life from a perspective of an admission committee! He is more than qualified to provide reliable answers/advice on anything premed you are wondering about. You are more encouraged to come if you have any specific questions 

He has prepared a presentation that will be very useful in helping freshmen to juniors making the best of their time at UCLA and prepare themselves as superior applicants to medical school. It will also be extremely useful for seniors too if you are planning on taking a gap year and learning what is more important in your med school applications! Come with questions in mind:) 

On a side note, Manni has also given a presentation in Med Friends group at UCLA. If you doesn’t want to hear the same presentation, we still encourage you to come toward the end for Q&A.

PPA Week 8 Meeting Announcement

 

Happy Week 8!!

This Thursday, Dr. Avital Harari from UCLA’s Endocrine Surgery team will be joining us to share about her journey to become a physician! We are so privileged to have one of the top physicians spending her precious time with us. This is a great opportunity to learn more about this specialty and medicine in general. Therefore we encourage all of you to try spare an hour this Thursday to show our appreciation for the doctors. Attendance would mean so much so that we, as PPA officers can invite more doctors, health professionals, and admission committees to provide more resources for YOU!!  See you there at 5pm in Ackerman 2408!
